Cadet Training Scheme
Bicester Gliding Centre has in place an initiative aimed at encouraging students aged 15-17 into the sport of Gliding. The scheme recruits about February each year, with the most recent information pack available here (as a PDF file). The scheme includes a bursary for students - giving essentially free flying lessons up to about solo standard (see information pack for more details). The number of Bursaries each year are limited, and are by application only. Please contact us for more information on the scheme.
For those not lucky to receive a Bursary, we would still love to see you and have you come and try gliding. There are special rates for Cadets (see price list) which make gliding a very affordable sport for everyone.
Community Volunteer Scheme
Bicester Glding Centre encourages members of the local community to join the Club and has initiated a scheme that offers a free annual membership to those who are prepared to volunteer their help for at least three days per month taking on such task as grass cutting, winch driving, log keeping, etc. The number of of Community Volunteer memberships available are limited and by application only. EXCLUSIVE USE HIRE enables members to book a club glider for exclusive use to take away on expedition or to fly in a competition. Minimum 2 days hire required and will be charged at a daily rate of:

Hire for 9 day comps will be charged 7 days hire, permission to hire is at the discretion of the committee.
SEASON TICKET - £450 for 12 month period. Covers all soaring fees on all single seat gliders; also gives 50% discount off published rate for exclusive use hire.
MOTORGLIDER MONTHLY PAYMENT OPTION –pay annual fee of £300 (£25 per month) and enjoy a £25.00 per hour discount off of the published Motorglider hourly rate. Available to licensed PPL/NPPL/SPL holders only.
LAUNCH FAILURE COSTS - will be charged at 50% of the club rates for the launch cost and normal full rates for airtime.
TUG HIRE - £147 per tacho hour for member’s private use (self hire is subject to BGC approval) and £176.40 including VAT for non-members where used for retrieve, non-members may not hire the club tugs for self-use.
FIXED PRICE TO SOLO –£1,495.00 price includes all winch launching, thirty minutes of motor glider time and up to 4,000ft of aerotows until the student achieves solo standard. The price also includes the first year’s membership fees. If the student has not achieved solo standard within the first 12 month period the subsequent years membership fees will become due and will be charged on a prorate basis for the remainder of the membership year.
Students who wish to avail themselves of this offer and already have full club membership may deduct the current annual membership fee at the basic rate from the price.
JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP - A class of membership open to those under between 18 and 25 years old at the start of BGC’s membership year (01 July).
CADET MEMBERSHIP –Open to those under 18 years old at the start of BGC’s membership year (01 July) and to OUGC and GUGC members. Any Cadet who is under 16 at the 01 July and whose parent is a full flying member will receive free membership.

RECIPROCAL MEMBERSHIP - Bicester Gliding Centre does not offer reciprocal membership unless agreed by the committee in advance. All existing Reciprocal Membership numbers will be converted to a Temporary Membership class.
-Visiting pilots who are a member of other BGA and GSA clubs (BGC reserves the right to check with the ‘home club’ that they are a current member) will be charged a Temporary Member Day Rate with. Temporary membership will not normally allow BGC club aircraft to be flown solo and will require the approval of a Director in addition to the duty instructor. A Temporary Membership form is to be completed for each visiting pilots and for current BGC year.
-Friends and Family of instructors will not be charged a Temporary Day Membership fee. This will also apply to pilots authorised to carry F&F in their own gliders.
-Non-pilots who are guests of a fully paid up member (not including 3 month memberships) will be charged a Temporary Member Day Rate day with a 10 maximum days allowed per year.
THREE MONTH MEMBERSHIP- (including free 3 month membership with flying packages) only available once per person.
COUNTRY MEMBERSHIP –This is offered to members of other BGA clubs who live more than 50 miles from Bicester.
CAMPING – The erection of tents/trailer tents is subject to BGC approval at all times and must not be left erected whilst the owner is off site for more than 2 days. Tents must not be occupied for more than 10 consecutive days in any month.
INSTUCTOR CREDITS - For each day an instructor attends a weekend rostered day, either as part of their normal instructor team; takes a swop from a rostered instructor or takes a place on the Volunteer DutyMan Weekend Instructor Slot will receive a credit against their next year’s membership of £10/day. Note it is the duty of the DI to inform the office who has attended their duty day.
A Basic Instructor who has upgraded to Assistant Instructor after 01 July 2014 and who is on the regular weekend duty roster shall receive 2 years free membership of BGC provided they remain on the weekend roster, attends all their rosted days or arranges suitable swop(s). Should they leave the regular weekend roster then the membership fee shall become due. Instructors who have been granted 2 years free membership shall not receive the daily £10 credit during the period of their free membership period due.
Instructor check flights will be charged at 50% normal club rates for both launch and flying costs.
PRO-RATA MEMBERSHIP- New members joining (and those upgrading their membership) part way through a BGC membership year will be charged pro-rata for the remaining part of the year. Those joining part way through a month will be charged for the full month. The standard 5% surcharge will be added to the current membership rate.
