The November 2007 Committee Meeting.

Not the official minutes

Once again I was invited to listen in on the committee meeting and produce a personal view of what was discussed, which you'll probably be able to read before the official minutes and before the AGM.

The Club Email News Alert system has been in use for a month now. So read your emails! Important club news is distributed this way. You can edit your profile instantly by clicking on the link in the email (it logs you in automatically to your profile, no passwords to remember).

The directors have been working on a business plan to take effect from when we have security of tenure, something they are working hard to achieve. They have produced a presentation (which you'll be able to see at the AGM) with various options under consideration. So do turn up at the AGM to hear what they have been doing.

The management structure and committee members' responsibilities were discussed, including whether the commitee should be expanded to spread the load, and if so, what new post(s) might be created. This idea will be put to the club at the AGM, and members will get advance notice via the email alert system. Basically one current post may be spilt in two. Due to the short notice of this, nominations will be accepted at the AGM itself.

At the AGM, voting will be by ballot paper where a post is contested, and this will apply to committee posts and director posts.

Two new club trophies were also announced. The first is the LX Cup for the fastest handicapped flight from Bicester of over 200km (decided by entries in the BGA Ladder), and presented by John Delafield of LX Avionics. This is designed to encourage more cross countries of course and generate some freindly rivalry (Friendly? Max K. beat me for the previous GSA trophy by 0.1 kph when I was 20 minutes faster than him. Huh! And it was me that scored it so he beat me...)

The second one is the AlFar Cup, in memory of Allan Farmer, one of our most popular and pleasant members, who died earlier this year. This is awarded to the member who has has made a significant contribution to the running of the club without thanks or renumeration. (I think I wrote that done correctly, my hand writing is not very neat and I scribbled it a bit, sorry.)

Other club trophies will also be presented at the AGM

Mid-week winching on Wednesday and Friday will continue through winter, weather permitting, as it appears to be working well, with 30 - 40 launches each day being common. Extra instructional hands would be appreciated perhaps.

Roger Crouch has been helping with recommendations from the local firemen on how to improve fire safety around the club, better exits and improved signage. One result is that the battery charging room has been moved to the old battery charging room. If you don't know where it is, ask. It seems to have produced a bit more space for checking and general handing of parachutes in the parachute room.

The BGA wish somewhere to store their new glider simulator and we may be providing space for it at some point, which might enable us to fly when the weather is bad.

The next committee meeting will be on December 2nd, at 5:00pm. Just so that any new faces from the AGM know about it (don't what them to feel left out, do we?)
