The Bicester Regionals 2008

Pre-comp News

The most popular Regionals in Southern England (if the number of entries is anything to go by) is with us again! The Bicester Regionals will run from Saturday 19th July to Sunday 27th July at Bicester Airfield, home to Windrushers Gliding Club. As usual, the competition has been over-subscribed (by January we had 80 entrants and ten reserves!).

However, all the reserves have now been offered places after a few dropouts. So one or two places have now become available for this popular Competition.

The Regionals will be organised by much the same team as in previous years, directed by Dickie Feakes, assisted by Max Kirschner who will be tast setting again.

The local rules are available via the menu under General Info.

The class split will be by handicap with 99 and below in the Sport Class, and 100 and above in the Open Class. There will be a special prize for the highest placed two seater with a handicap of 88 or lower in the Sport Class.

Thursday, 17th July, and gliders are arriving slowly but steadily. We'd like to remind people that the area where they will see the "No gliders beyond this point" sign is where tug towropes drag on the grass when they land and where the winch cable lands when winching. So ignoring the sign and parking there is just too silly for words! We'd have to move four gliders to safety so far, after telling the owners how risky it was. Take the hint, it's your glider that's at risk. Note that the same area is off limits to caravans as well for the same reasons.

It's Friday now, and booking-in is happening as I sit here. You can also book-in early on Saturday morning as well. The airfield is beginning to fill up with trailers now. First briefing will be at 10:00am in the hangar.
