Summary of Committee Meeting on 4th November 2007


Here is a note of some of the main points considered by the Committee at its recent meeting. As always a full set of the minutes is posted outside the main briefing room.

Windrushers Gliding Club Plan.– The meeting was briefed on the content of the plan. A similar briefing will be given to all members at the AGM..

Site Purchase – Our lease runs out in June 2009, short extensions may be available. If we are able to stay, we will require a significantly increased income to meet the inevitable overheads.

The Forum.– Concern was expressed about non-members of WGC being able to view the items on the club Forum. JW was asked to see if Forum entry could be password protected.

Operations 2008 – Staffing – The meeting agreed two job specifications, one for a full time manager/full cat and the other for a course instructor for the 2008 soaring season.

Winter Mid Week Flying – Flying on Wednesday and Friday afternoons had begun and was well supported. MP had been engaged for two days per week throughout the winter, an extension of his summer employment as a WGC instructor.

AGM Trophies and Awards– The following awards will be made (full details on the News section for Nov 2007):
CFI’s Trophy – Alan Smith.
Member of the Year – George Unpronounceable
Al Far Memorial Trophy – John Wright
LX Cup – Dave Watt
Most Meritorious flight – Jed Edyvean’s 750km
Chairman’s Cup – Clive Dalzell

Recent Fire Pre - Inspection – Most of the items had been attended to. The Men’s Bunkroom is to be moved to the ground floor Competition Admin Room and the latter will take over the first floor bunkroom. A fireproof blanket had been placed in the kitchen, all battery charging now takes place in the External Battery Charging Room and Kevin Millar had provided the necessary extra signage. The formal Fire Inspection will take place on 13 November 2007..

BGA Simulator and Puchaz Glider – Both will be stored in the hangar over winter. Controlled access to the simulator for club members has been agreed by the BGA..

Management Committee Post Changes – The present Operations post will be split into Operations(Flying Equipment) and Operations(Ground Equipment). JD (Defence Estates) will stand down from the committee as the information he provides was of more use to the Directors who were dealing with airfield purchase.
